Album Notes
Christmas compilations from independent labels really are a dime a dozen, but they occasionally produce a few nice tracks. The highlight of Zero Hour's collection has Kevin Salem putting on his best Shane MacGowan voice to front a Grover cover of the Pogues' "Fairytale of New York" (a song that remains amazing in pretty much anyone's hands). Also included are a Kittywinder track ("I Don't Wanna Hear No Merry Christmas") that is just as moving; a Black Watch rendition of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen"; and tracks from Shallow, the Dirt Merchants, Space Needle, and the always-excellent Boyracer. ~ Nitsuh Abebe
